Summary
DMHA is a synthetic sympathomimetic stimulant originally developed as a nasal decongestant in the 1940s-1950s. The FDA considers DMHA an unsafe food additive and has issued warning letters to supplement manufacturers. It is banned by WADA for athletic competition and is illegal in several countries including Australia, Canada, and parts of the EU.
Dose Information
Dose basis. Dose data primarily come from user reports and supplement labels, not controlled clinical studies; salt form (freebase vs HCl) and product purity vary widely. Use an accurate mg scale; avoid combining with proprietary blends that include multiple stimulants. Anecdotal reports only; higher risk of nasal irritation and local vasoconstriction. Oral use is generally lower-risk than intranasal for this compound. (Dose figures and this note are from Drugs.Wiki.)
| ROA | Light | Common | Strong | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oral | 75-100mg | 100-150mg | 150-200mg | 200mg+ |
| Insufflated | 50-75mg | 75-100mg | 100-150mg | 150mg+ |
Onset, Duration & After-effects
| ROA | Onset | Comeup | Peak | Offset | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oral | 20-40 min | 30-60 min | 1-2 hrs | 1-2 hrs | 2.83-5.67 hrs |
| Insufflated | 5-15 min | 15-30 min | 1-2 hrs | 1-2 hrs | 2.33-4.75 hrs |

Add to PsychonautWiki Journal
The PsychonautWiki Journal logging app doesn't include every substance. To track DMHA there, start adding an ingestion, search for the name, and choose to add it as a custom substance. Paste these values:
DMHA Source: SubstanceSearch (substancesearch.com) Oral dose (mg): threshold 50 ยท light 75-100 ยท common 100-150 ยท strong 150-200 ยท heavy 200+ Insufflated dose (mg): threshold 25 ยท light 50-75 ยท common 75-100 ยท strong 100-150 ยท heavy 150+ Oral duration: onset 20-40m ยท come-up 0.5-1h ยท peak 1-2h ยท offset 1-2h ยท total 2.83-5.67h ยท after-effects 2-4h Insufflated duration: onset 5-15m ยท come-up 15-30m ยท peak 1-2h ยท offset 1-2h ยท total 2.33-4.75h ยท after-effects 1-3h Note: ranges are harm-reduction guidance, not a prescription. Start low, go slow, and test your substances.
Tip: for quicker logging you can also add a Custom Unit in the app, e.g. common dose ~ 125 mg (Oral).
The app keeps custom substances simple, so the full dose ranges live in the description text above. Ranges are harm-reduction guidance, not a prescription.
Tolerance
Tolerance Decay
Acute tolerance: develops within a single session โ the reset numbers above apply after sustained heavy use, not after one binge. Within-session tachyphylaxis usually resets largely overnight.
Estimates reflect stimulant-class tolerance patterns inferred from user reports; high uncertainty.
