This combination can result in an increased risk of vomiting during unconsciousness and death from the resulting suffocation. If this occurs, users should attempt to fall asleep in the recovery position or have a friend move them into it.
It is dangerous to combine thienzodiazepines with stimulants due to the risk of excessive intoxication. Stimulants decrease the sedative effect of benzodiazepines, which is the main factor most people consider when determining their level of intoxication. Once the stimulant wears off, the effects of thienzodiazepines will be significantly increased, leading to intensified disinhibition as well as other effects.

History & Culture
Metizolam was first patented in 1995 by a Japanese pharmaceutical company as a potential medication for treating anxiety disorders. Despite this early patent, the compound was never developed for clinical use and has no documented history of medical application. The substance emerged on the designer drug market in September 2015, when it began to be sold as a grey area research chemical through online vendors. Prior to this commercial availability, metizolam had little to no documented history of human use, making it one of many novel thienodiazepines to appear on the research chemical market with minimal pharmacological characterization in humans.
Toxicity
PsychonautWikiThe toxicity and long-term health effects of recreational metizolam use have not been studied in any scientific context and the exact toxic dosage is unknown. This is because metizolam is a research chemical with very little history of human usage. Anecdotal evidence from people within the psychonaut community who have tried metizolam suggests that there are no negative health effects attributed to simply trying the substance by itself at low to moderate doses and using it very sparingly (but nothing can be completely guaranteed). [https://www.google.com/ Independent research] should always be done to ensure that a combination of two or more substances is safe before consumption.
Overdose
Thienodiazepine overdose may occur when a thienodiazepine is taken in extremely heavy quantities or concurrently with other depressants. This is particularly dangerous with other GABAergic depressants such as barbiturates and alcohol since they work in a similar fashion, but bind to distinct allosteric sites on the GABAA receptor. Thus their effects potentiate one another.

Acute tolerance: develops within a single session — the reset numbers above apply after sustained heavy use, not after one binge. Within-session tachyphylaxis usually resets largely overnight.
Legal Status
| Country | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Canada | Schedule IV | Controlled under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. All benzodiazepine compounds are classified as Schedule IV controlled substances in Canada, which restricts possession, trafficking, and importation. |
| Germany | NpSG (Controlled) | Regulated under the Neue-psychoaktive-Stoffe-Gesetz (New Psychoactive Substances Act) since July 18, 2019. Production, importation with intent to distribute, administration to others, and trafficking are criminally punishable offenses. Possession is prohibited but does not carry criminal penalties. |
| Sweden | Illegal | Classified as an illegal substance on January 26, 2016, following its emergence on the designer drug market. Possession, sale, and distribution are prohibited. |
| Switzerland | Controlled (Verzeichnis E) | Specifically named as a controlled substance under Verzeichnis E of Swiss narcotics scheduling. Production, distribution, and possession without authorization are prohibited. |
| Turkey | Illegal | Classified as a controlled drug under Turkish narcotics legislation. Possession, production, supply, and importation are all prohibited activities. |
| United Kingdom | Psychoactive Substances Act | Production, supply, and importation are prohibited under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016, effective May 26, 2016. This blanket legislation covers psychoactive substances not specifically exempted. Personal possession is not criminalized under this act. |
