Summary
Modafinil is primarily prescribed for narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder. Off-label use includes ADHD, depression-related fatigue, and cognitive enhancement. Can cause insomnia, anxiety, headaches, and rarely serious skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis). Contraindicated in individuals with cardiac conditions or during pregnancy. Users should be aware that modafinil induces CYP3A4, potentially reducing effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives.
